I’ve lived here for 10 years, but for one reason or another had never visited this annual fiesta in the nearby town of Yecla.

On the Saturday closest to San Isidro, 15th May, the patron saint of farm labourers and Madrid, you will be able to see a spectacular procession of floats.

The floats take on different themes, there is a procession for children, followed by one for adults. The local people have spent the long winter months making the floats and the incredible thing is each float is decorated entirely out of tiny pieces of coloured paper.

The finished floats are an amazing sight, brightly coloured mosaics of coloured paper. The children’s floats include cartoon figures, building blocks, aliens and such like, whilst the adults focus on local traditions and historic buildings and , my favourite, local wine – as Yecla is an important wine growing area.

So there you have it – another great place for a local day out – you won’t be disappointed!

If you want to find out more about wine from Yecla, I can organise tours and tasting sessions at the local bodegas through my website www.secretwinespain.com

Salud!
